The purpose of Anvil Trust is to articulate, advocate, and advance Jesus-centered and world-embracing shalom, rooted in scriptural tradition but positively engaged with contemporary realities (ecology, inclusion, inter-faith).
The biblical concept of shalom – usually translated peace, but better understood as ‘wholeness, completeness, wellbeing, harmony, and the integrity of all things’ – is foundational for our work.
Our vision is to see an informal/organic movement of people committed to and embodying this shalom in the personal, relational, institutional, political, and ecological life.
And our strategy to connect people in local/regional hubs around our understanding of Jesus-Shalom by providing new access to reflections and conversations about it in written and online form.
Anvil Trust is a registered charity (No:1010354) that was established on 20th March 1992.
The Trust was brought into being after the Workshop programme had already been running some eight and a half years (since September 1983). Anvil Trust is shaped by the same vision and values that undergird Workshop, and provides a legal basis upon which Jesus-Shalom, Workshop, and Peacemeal function.
There are currently five Anvil Trust trustees, most of whom have been actively involved in the running of the Workshop course. They are:
- Aglaia Barraclough
- Isabel Cuidad Fontecha
- Sarah Edwards
- Tim Evans (Chair)
- Christabel Fearon
Their responsibilities are not only to make sure that the legal requirements of the Trust are met, but also to play an important part in the decision making process of the programme.
